The second day at Oakmont was Members Monday. This is a special day where members invited quests to participate in a shot gun start. I had the opportunity to play with another one of the JLL guys, Gale H. He lives in Columbus, Ohio and is with the JLL office there.
My round on Members Monday was similar to my round on the day before. This was only the second time that I've played a course more than once during my Quest. I had a flight to catch that evening and with a 1:00 start, my group stopped after we had played 16 holes. We started our round on the par five 9th hole. I almost hit one of the golfers on the adjacent first hole with my drive. I opened my round with a green in regulation and two putt par. We played 15 additional holes and I was tracking to shot 89 to 90, which is about the same as my first round score. Unlike the previous time that I played a course more than once (Prairie Dunes), I wasn't on track to improve my score from the first round. Probably because I didn't do any better at avoiding the bunkers.
My caddie on the second day was Justin. Justin grew up in Oakmont. He has been a caddie for 24 years and has caddied in Florida and Colorado, including during the International Tournament, a PGA event that used to be held at Castle Pines in Castle Rock, Colorado. The flight that I needed to catch was to Colorado to play Castle Pines, along with Cherry Hills, Balyneal. Justin also owns a barbershop and is starting a restaurant review business with his wife. As a part of the review, they take and post photographs on line. I've decided to post some of the photographs that Justin took during our round together at Oakmont. I hope you enjoy the photos and that it gives you a sense of what the day was like. The photos will cycle on their own.
